People often spend a lot of time in the kitchen, from cutting vegetables and preparing food to cooking and washing utensils.

There are a few basic things that you must keep in mind as you head into the kitchen to keep yourself safe and the healthiest, most nutritious food possible.

1. Throw away rancid food

Food tends to go rancid very early in the summer. Avoid eating spoiled food and prepare fresh food for each meal. Make sure you keep the dishes in the refrigerator immediately after preparation and use them within 5 hours, according to the Times of India.

Raw foods are more nutritious and better for your gut than leftovers.

2. Vegetable cleaning

After buying fruits or vegetables, put them in a bucket of warm water. Add some salt, vinegar, baking soda or vegetable cleaning solution to it. Rub them gently with your hands and let them soak for a minimum of 20 minutes.

Then, rinse fruits and vegetables properly with clean water, dry them with a clean cloth, and store them in a designated place.

3. Avoid cross-infection

4. Expired Food

Always check the expiration date while purchasing food items. Refuse to buy food packages near the expiration date. Be alert and check the package or box of food for cracks or leaks. Before using any dish, check the expiry date and if it has expired, don't use it, according to the Times of India.

5. The kitchen must be clean

After preparing a particular meal, make sure that the gas stove is wiped clean with a cleaning solution and a cloth. In addition, your refrigerator should be cleaned weekly.

If you have open cabinets in your kitchen, clean them every two weeks, as dust and grease collect on the containers, causing them to become sticky. If you have shelves attached, a monthly cleaning should suffice.

6. Pay close attention to gas stoves

You need to be very careful: Accidents can happen at any time and the only way to prevent them is to be extra careful while handling gas and fire. Make sure that the gas stove is turned off after you finish cooking. If using multiple burners at the same time, be careful not to accidentally touch the hot pot.

7. The person who cooks must be very clean

The person who is cooking food needs to be very careful in his personal hygiene. Wash your hands thoroughly before cooking food and during chopping vegetables and non-vegetarian dishes. Make sure your nails are always neatly trimmed and clean. Tie your hair back tightly and always wear an apron when cooking.
